Fremont, CA, USA – Tuesday, February 7, 2023 – Blackmagic Design today announced that documentary filmmaker, entrepreneur and YouTuber Matt D’Avella uses DaVinci Resolve Studio editing, color grading, visual effects (VFX) and audio post production software to produce content for his popular YouTube channel of the same name. Also relying on Blackmagic Cloud, D’Avella and his multicontinental team collaborate in real time, streamlining the editing process and production of videos for his 3.6 million subscribers.
D’Avella started his YouTube channel in 2007 and made the transition to full time content creation in 2017. Posting content around minimalism, self development and productivity, D’Avella has cultivated a following of millions across his platforms.
Splitting his time between Sydney and Philadelphia, D’Avella recently standardized on editing in DaVinci Resolve Studio to accommodate his growing team, which includes remote editors based in Canada and the United States. “My team was up and running on DaVinci Resolve within a month, and I was surprised with how easy and intuitive it was to get set up,” noted D’Avella.
D’Avella and his team use Blackmagic Cloud to work simultaneously within the same project at the same time, helping to streamline the editing process. Using the Blackmagic Proxy Generator, the team creates a proxy file which makes it seamless for them to continue editing a project without having to deal with offline content. Then, the team can easily use DaVinci Resolve Studio to search and relink the footage with a single click.
D’Avella said, “We are all working from local drives with similar files paths, yet we can work remotely in the same project together. This is only possible thanks to the intelligent media management system within DaVinci Resolve.”
During a recent video titled “I Use a Dumb Phone for 30 Days,” D’Avella and his team specifically credit their Blackmagic Design workflow for helping them save hours in the editing process. D’Avella explained, “This type of video is hard to edit because of all the footage that goes into it, including interviews, A roll, vlog footage, B roll, music and graphics. I was able to shoot the footage by myself and then share the proxy files with my team to remotely access.”
“While I was in Sydney, my East Coast team started the edit, and when I woke up the next day, I could pick up where they left off,” he continued. “This tag team ability in Blackmagic Cloud sped up the editing process immensely, as we were able to complete the video in four days instead of the two week process it would typically take.”
Before making the switch to DaVinci Resolve Studio, D’Avella took on editing around 90 percent of his videos. He explained, “Prior to DaVinci Resolve Studio, my main challenge was finding a workflow that didn’t slow me down. My team was using two different editing platforms and a third party video sharing site for feedback. It was incredibly difficult to communicate any changes with my team, and we were going through five or six versions for a single video. I found it easier to make edits myself because of how frustrating my workflow was.”
D’Avella concluded, “With my DaVinci Resolve Studio workflow, I am able to collaborate seamlessly with my team, make videos way faster and put out better videos than before. It’s been a game changer!
