Fremont, CA, USA – Wednesday, June 12, 2024 – Blackmagic today announced that entrepreneur and digital media creator Nagier Chambers used Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 digital film cameras at the recent Golden Globe Awards and Astra Film Awards. Shooting in full frame for TikTok
YouTube and Instagram, Chambers captured the action at the award ceremony red carpet events.
Chambers is owner and founder of Big Gold Belt Media and host of the Big Gold Belt wrestling championship. Big Gold Belt Media is a news, film and podcast outlet and production company focusing on television, film and pop culture from the perspective of people of color, striving to highlight minorities in these spaces.
Chambers and his crew of filmmakers and podcasters have created hundreds of hours of videos covering everything from WWE matches to the latest films and TV shows. This includes shooting at D23 Expo, San Diego and New York Comic-Cons, as well as red carpets at Tribeca Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and South by Southwest (SXSW). One of his most memorable moments so far has been shooting “Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo during her Disney Legends handprint ceremony.
Receiving full access for both nights of the Hollywood Creative Alliance’s Astrid Awards and photo and B roll access for the Golden Globes the same weekend, Big Gold Belt Media was given an opportunity to talk to some of the entertainment industry’s biggest celebrities.
To capture these interviews, Chambers relied on several Blackmagic Design digital film cameras. This included the new full frame Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K, which he paired with Sigma lenses and shot full frame in 4K 60 fps.
Chambers explained: “As an independent outlet, it can be difficult to gain traction. Getting access is only part of the process though, as there are other reporters and creators crammed together, all competing to get interviews with the same people. One of the ways to really stand out and make sure you get what you need is to have the right equipment.”
Chambers found that having his Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K made him stand apart from the rest. “Blackmagic cameras add a level of legitimacy to our brand. When I was surrounded by iPhones, the various reps allowed me to interview people because I had professional cameras and did not appear to be just any old blogger,” he added.
When shooting awards and red carpets, there is no way to determine just how much footage will eventually be shot and how much time there will be to get the right lighting. Chambers explained: “It’s always case by case depending on the assignment and is often impossible to perfectly plan. But I know I need to get enough B roll to complement the interviews and the event and then be ready to shoot at a moment’s notice. The versatility of the Blackmagic cameras, along with the high dynamic range, gives me a lot of leeway to be creative and get the shots that I need.”
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K’s ability to quickly switch from Super 35 to full frame mode also gives Chambers a powerful tool to get unique high quality footage. Additionally, shooting for several different platforms, such as YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, can be tricky due to the need to mix vertical and horizontal formats. Chambers relies on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K to retain professional quality images even when cropped to a vertical frame.
“They are powerful. The equipment commands the attention of other outlets, reps, and even the talent at these events. That doesn’t happen with other brands. In fact, I was doing an interview with one of the voices of the recent ‘Lion King’ and an ‘Orville’ actor, and he came right over to me and did an interview just because I had a Blackmagic camera with me.”
